2017 First Quarter goals

2017 First Quarter goals

It’s March and since I am updating this blog regularly now I wanted to quickly post my first quarter goals that I’ve already been working on before the quarter was over.

I got this idea from Jenna Moreci and since I started it in the middle of last year it’s really been helping me get things done.

Basically, I come up with a few goals that I want to accomplish in three months and chip away at them.

I’ve tried monthly goals before but it’s very easy for a month of time to get away from me if life gets really busy. Yearly goals are great and I use them for broad goals, but sometimes they can seem so far off that it’s hard to remember to chip away at them until time is almost up. The quarterly goals give me a little more wiggle room. Yes, I know this makes me sound like the Goldilocks of goal setting and when I first saw one of Jenna’s videos on her quarterly goals I literally smacked my head and shouted “duh” to an empty room.

Here are my goals for the first quarter of 2017:

  1. Come up with a title for my manuscript. This is ridiculously hard for me for some reason. Anything else I’ve done I had a title pop into my head right away except the one manuscript I’m editing and hoping to submit this year.
  2. Finish editing passes. I broke down what I need to pay attention to so I wouldn’t overwhelm myself.
  3. Get a part time job.
  4. Date night with hubby once a week. Totally stolen from Jeanna because it’s such a sweet idea.
  5. Read 13 books. Technically the goal is 50 this year. 13 is what the math breaks down to.
  6. Add 5,000 words to the manuscript. It’s still short and I know there are sections that need more descriptions.
  7. Find a writing group or critique partner.
  8. Find Beta-readers.
  9. Regular training for SD full marathon. The race is June 4th and my friend and I are making an attempt after a disastrous DNF for our Half Marathon last November.
  10. Organize the house. I’ll put more on this in a separate blog post. But let’s just say I’m tired of not finding anything.

That’s it for this quarter. Some of them are easy. And some of them, like any that involve talking to strangers, are more challenging. I’ll give an update in early April on how I did and what my new goals are for the second quarter.
